My favorite workout is hiking, or at least speed walking, but in the winter here in Denver, I like the Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred workouts, which she claims are 20 minutes, but are really more like 25 when you count the warm up and cool down (which I do). Jillian acknowledges that we don’t start out fit on day one, but if we work on it, we will improve, and quickly, which I’ve found to be true. Thus, she has her assistants doing harder or easier workouts to follow based on where we are at, fitness-wise.
For variety, however, I invested 150 bucks in the Insanity workouts. I want to let the trainer who leads the DVD series (there are ten) know that I’m not actually conditioning my body so that I can become a Navy SEAL, I’m just trying to mitigate the effects of my very profound love affair with food. My fitness goal for the year is basically not to gain weight: I just want to be able to fly on an airplane without a flight attendant having to fetch me a seatbelt extender to contain my girth.
